  Elgin/Landshut Twin Town Association

The Tartan was designed to celebrate the twinning of the towns of Elgin and Landshut in Bavaria, Germany in the 1950s.The colours used are those of the towns, Elgin and Landshut (red and white), plus the national colours of Scotland and Bavaria (blue and white). The aims and objects of the association are to promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of Elgin in Scotland and the people of Landshut in Bavaria, Germany. Annual membership fee is £5 and we hold our AGM in September each year. We are affiliated to the Moray Twinning Association.  The Chairman is Mr Alastair Rossetter, 66 Duncan Drive, Elgin. Twinning was first established, to establish links between towns in countries that had been at war, and the signing of a charter by the late Oberbürgermeister Albin Lang of Landshut and Elgin’s Lord Provost, the late W.B. Munro, in 1956, makes Elgin-Landshut one of the oldest twinning links in the country.

In 2006 Elgin-Landshut Twin town Association celebrated its 50th Anniversary with publication of a booklet entitled”Landshut-Elgin – 50 years of Twinning”. The commemorative booklet has been compiled by Harald Bauer, chairman of the Landshut-Elgin Twintown Association, and in its foreword, he celebrates the fact that the link is very much alive.

The blossoming link between Elgin and Landshut has been celebrated with a commemorative booklet,  shown by Lorna Paterson, former chairwoman of the twin town association. 2006 NS
