I was wondering if any of the locals could help me with an inquiry? I am researching my mother's side of the family and have the names Hesketh and Grant both of Elgin. Are there any archive offices or cemetery offices in Elgin that I could contact to find out any info on the families? Could someone list the name of the local Cemetery for me? Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Tricia

I'd like to take my students on the malt whisky trail next fall.
We are opening a European section and I would love to combine the discovery of the region and the visits of distilleries with more contacts with the local students. The group will probably include around 30 students and 4 teachers. They study to become chefs, waiters, and bartenders.
I'd like to find decent but cheap accomodation for 3/4 days so we can visit a couple of distilleries, maybe a nice hotel /restaurant but if we could arrange some kind of meeting with young people we would add a cultural and friendly aspect to our european objective.
Afterwards we might set up an exchange program (work positions )...why not?
So if you can send any tip, clue, piece of information that might help us, I'd be more than pleased and grateful.
Thank you ever so much

kind regards,

serge Du PUCH

Hello, I am a tour operator, and I have a group of music students who will be visiting Elgin next month. I was told that there are catering facilities at the Town Hall that can handle up to 200 people. Is this so?

Thank you for your assistance,

There is an archive library in the Cooper Park in Elgin which contains records of people, places and all that.

There are two cemeteries adjacent to each other in New Elgin, literally round the corner from New Elgin Primary School.

Hope this helps you.

I'm amazed at the lack of input here from Councillors, Community Councillors and Council officials, particularly given their propensity for verbosity at all other times. It makes one wonder whether they actually care at all about attracting visitors to Elgin if the effort doesn't involve organising committee meetings or decking out the town centre in banners and bunting.

About (very roughly) 400 - 450 miles away. Elgin is also not a village, but a city!

Hello,

I am a policeman in San Antonio, Texas. No, we don't ride horses. Not with 1.8 million people , hard to get around :) I just recently found my birth family as I was adopted at age 2 days. My greatX3 grandfather was one Alexander Bower of Elgin, so naturally I am interested . I would like to e-mail/write with another law enforcement offical in Elgin if possible, or a Bower. Thanks a bunch.

I am doing research into my family tree. My great grandfather Patrick Ross was born in Elgin on 9 August 1834 and emigrated to New Zealand where he married Janet Angus in 1862. I believe his parents were James Ross and Margaret Brown and his siblings were Alexander, Margaret, William Ann, George and Robert. Is anyone able to assist in providing some references I could refer to. Thank you. David Ross

I am from Aberdeen but live in the Middle East just now. Im getting married in Elgin in September. I think Elgin is great for a night out and beats Aberdeen hands down. The shopping isnt too bad either but could do with a few bigger names down the main street. Ive found it relatively easy organising everything when i got to Elgin but was disappointed by this site when i looked up the directory and there weren't many businesses on it. The should take this opportunity to advertise but do they actually know this site exists? I had a week in May to find a hairdresser, florist, wedding cake and beauty salon which i managed to do but information beforehand would of been a big help. Those who have found it and added to it, well done. Cant wait till September and to get back to some homely scenery!

Hi everyone : )

I am researching the family SIMPSON ELGIN. Does MURIEL SIMPSON mean anything to anyone? She lived in MILLAR STREET New Elgin (30 years ago!) with her mother (both deceased). I believe she was a large lady with brown hair? She had two children adopted, I am one of those children.

If anyone would be so kind as to inform me of any relatives I have in the area I would be very grateful. I am at present going through the conventional routes but since you all seem so helpful on here I thought I would give it a try :) Thanks
